What is EXTRA
Region 1288 is proud to provide our players with a program that offers soccer development opportunities similar to club soccer but maintains the core AYSO philosophies – including a guarantee that they will play at least half of every game. AYSO EXTRA is designed to provide a more challenging level of play for those players who possess the appropriate interest, skills, and abilities. The goal of EXTRA is to strengthen AYSO by retaining players and volunteers in addition to primary programs operated under the AYSO philosophies. EXTRA is committed to developing a world-class competitive soccer program that is focused on providing a more challenging environment and enhancing the training and development for our more dedicated soccer enthusiasts. All interested players will have to attend a try-out in the Fall and/or Spring each year, where they will be evaluated by an assessment team. Players who are chosen to participate will be notified shortly after tryouts. Players who are not chosen can be placed on a core team in the Fall or Spring season. EXTRA teams compete against other EXTRA teams throughout AYSO Section 11 as well as tournament play.
TRYOUTS
· All players must register for the tryout in advance.
· The tryout is open to ALL players based on the birth year of each division.
· ALL players (current EXTRA players included) MUST attend at least one Spring tryout to be considered for a team, attendance at both tryouts is encouraged.
· There is no fee to try out and you do not need to be currently registered in AYSO to tryout. Registering for the Fall or Spring program is encouraged if you plan to participate in region 1288's core season.
· Players will be notified soon after tryouts if they are selected for an EXTRA team. Players will need to register for the core season if selected.

Remember Lynwood AYSO runs on Parent Power We run on parent power -- not money! All Lynwood Extra teams are expected to volunteer during the season -- most often as referees or lining fields, etc. When your child participates in Region 1288, so do you. Your volunteer spirit keeps our costs low. Often the roster decision between two like players comes down to whose parent/guardian is willing to volunteer referee!
